Mixed Flowers on Pink Cloth — Roderic O'Conor (c. 1916)
A floral still life from O'Conor's later Paris years: crimson, scarlet and vermilion blooms set against acid greens, golden yellows and the warm pink of the cloth beneath. By this period O'Conor had left Brittany behind and was working in a softer, more intimate register, closer in spirit to Bonnard than to the bold Breton landscapes of his 1890s work.
Roderic O'Conor (1860–1940) was born in Roscommon and spent most of his working life in France, absorbing the lessons of Van Gogh and the Pont-Aven circle before settling in Paris. His work hangs in the National Gallery of Ireland.
