About this work
The Temptation of Adam was painted between 1767 and 1770 by the Irish artist James Barry (1741–1806), born in Cork. Eve offers the fruit and Adam turns toward her; Barry painted it in his twenties, before the London career that made him a Royal Academician and then, uniquely, saw him expelled from the Academy. The original is a very large canvas, 199.8 × 152.9 cm, and hangs in the National Gallery of Ireland (NGI.762), presented by the Royal Society of Arts in 1915. This print is an open edition, made to order and shipped worldwide.
